Benin stands with Niger after Niamey airport attack

The government of Bénin has conveyed its unwavering solidarity with the people of Niger following the violent assault on the Diori-Hamani International Airport in Niamey on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

In an official statement issued from Cotonou, Bénin’s leadership expressed deep concern over the incident, denouncing the attack on a vital civilian infrastructure with severe implications for public safety.

« The attack on Niamey’s airport represents a reckless assault on a critical civilian facility, endangering the lives of ordinary citizens, » the statement emphasized, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The Bénin authorities extended their full support to both the people of Niger and its leadership, including President Abdourahamane Tiani, reaffirming the deep historical bonds and mutual friendship that unite the two nations.
