Morocco reaffirms commitment to African integration and development

Key discussions on enhancing cooperation between Morocco and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) took center stage during a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa. The session brought together Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the ECA, and Claver Gatete, ECA’s Executive Secretary.

The talks focused on strengthening existing partnerships while highlighting Morocco’s unwavering dedication to African unity and continental progress. Both sides explored new avenues to deepen collaboration in economic, social, and technological sectors, with a shared vision of accelerating Africa’s development agenda.

During the meeting, Mr. Gatete commended Morocco’s pivotal role in hosting the 58th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development held in Tangier from March 28 to April 3. He also noted the Kingdom’s consistent support for ECA initiatives aimed at fostering regional integration and sustainable growth.

Highlighting Morocco’s expertise in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), Mr. Gatete described the country’s model as a forward-thinking blueprint for the continent. He emphasized its innovative approach, which integrates skill development, cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, and alignment with industrialization needs. Such a framework, he argued, could serve as a replicable model for other African nations grappling with similar challenges.

In light of Africa’s rapid technological and economic transformations, Mr. Gatete urged broader adoption of Morocco’s successful strategies. He stressed the importance of sharing best practices across the continent to enhance collective progress and resilience. The ECA chief also called for stronger South-South cooperation to address shared developmental hurdles more effectively.

Morocco’s long-standing partnership with the ECA, dating back to the Commission’s establishment in 1958, has played a crucial role in advancing Africa’s economic integration. The Kingdom’s active participation in ECA programs underscores its commitment to continental solidarity and shared prosperity.
