During the second session of the Algeria-Niger Grand Joint Commission, both nations confirmed their mutual commitment to expanding medical ties. This strategic initiative aims to establish a robust and lasting partnership, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Health.
In the capital city of Niamey, the Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, held discussions with his counterpart from the Republic of Niger, Garba Hakimi. The meeting served as a platform to deepen bilateral cooperation, reflecting the strong fraternal bonds shared by Algeria and Niger. Both officials reviewed the current state of their partnership and explored future growth opportunities to benefit the citizens of both countries.
The dialogue focused on several technical priorities, including the advancement of medical and paramedical training programs. Furthermore, the ministers discussed enhancing collaboration in high-level medical specialties, such as kidney transplantation. The expansion of telemedicine was also highlighted as a key tool for improving specialized care and patient management accessibility.
Promoting hospital twinning and regional health initiatives
As part of the agreement, Algeria and Niger will prioritize twinning projects between their respective hospital institutions. These efforts will support the development of healthcare infrastructure and improve coordination in preventive medicine. A major highlight of this cooperation is the planned creation of a specialized center in Tamanrasset dedicated to monitoring and combating tropical diseases that affect the region.
Digital transformation within the healthcare sector was another focal point of the discussions. Both ministers emphasized the necessity of integrating digital solutions into health system management. By modernizing health information systems, both Algeria and Niger aim to improve governance and enhance the overall efficiency of medical services provided to their populations.
