Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelisation. This move has drawn praise from Cameroonian civil society leader Akere Muna.

Andrew Nkea Fuanya’s elevation by Pope Leo XIV marks a significant step. He will serve on the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches, a body dedicated to supporting the Holy See in nurturing young churches and guiding global missionary efforts.

Akere Muna, a prominent figure in Cameroonian civil society, has warmly applauded this decision. The lawyer described the appointment as both a deep recognition of the archbishop’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service, and unwavering dedication to the Church, and a powerful testament to the light he continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.

“I am convinced that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and fatherly compassion that have marked his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote. Archbishop Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. Elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on April 30, 2022, he has been a leading voice in dialogue for peace in crisis-hit regions.
