In a game-changing move for West African and European travel, Air Côte d’Ivoire and Air France are set to revolutionize the Paris–Abidjan corridor with a reciprocal codeshare agreement launching October 25, 2026. This strategic alliance marks a decisive shift in regional air connectivity, offering passengers unprecedented flexibility and choice.
Major milestone in francophone aviation cooperation
The landmark partnership enables both carriers to sell seats on each other’s flights under their own flight numbers, creating a seamless travel experience for passengers between Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (Abidjan) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. For travelers, this means:
- Access to an expanded schedule with more frequent departures
- The ability to book through either airline’s sales channels regardless of the operating carrier
- Simplified connections when traveling between West Africa and Europe
The collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership established in 2012 when Air France became a strategic investor in Air Côte d’Ivoire, further solidifying their shared commitment to strengthening francophone air travel networks.
Flying Blue and sMiles programs to merge by year-end 2026
Beyond flight operations, the airlines are integrating their loyalty programs in a move expected to benefit frequent flyers on both sides of the Mediterranean:
- sMiles members will earn and redeem miles on Air France-operated Paris–Abidjan flights, with full access to Flying Blue’s worldwide redemption options
- Flying Blue participants can similarly accumulate and spend miles on Air Côte d’Ivoire’s Abidjan–Paris routes
- The integration will provide exclusive benefits for elite status members traveling between Côte d’Ivoire and France
The program unification is scheduled for implementation before the end of 2026, enhancing customer retention across both airlines’ networks.
Next phase: global expansion of the codeshare network
For Air Côte d’Ivoire, the Paris–Abidjan initiative represents just the beginning of a broader expansion strategy. By mid-2027, the Ivorian carrier plans to extend the codeshare arrangement to additional destinations within Air France’s international network. This expansion aligns with Air Côte d’Ivoire’s vision to:
- Boost its profile in global aviation markets
- Facilitate easier access to Abidjan from international hubs
- Leverage Air France’s extensive distribution channels
- Strengthen Côte d’Ivoire’s position as a key West African transit point
The strategic alliance promises to deliver significant benefits for travelers, airlines, and both countries’ economies by fostering deeper commercial and cultural connections between Africa and Europe.
