Yopougon, Côte d’Ivoire – In a bold move to foster unity ahead of the nation’s 66th Independence Day, Deputy Mayor Adama Bictogo has announced a sweeping political tour across four key party strongholds in the district. The initiative, set to begin on Saturday, July 25, 2026, aligns with preparations for the August 7th celebrations in Yopougon, a vibrant commune within Abidjan’s autonomous district.
The tour will engage militants from four prominent political formations: the Pan-African Congress for Justice and Equality of Peoples (COJEP), the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire–Rally of the Republicans (PDCI-RDA), the Rally of the Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), and the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI). Each stop is designed to strengthen collaboration and ensure broad-based participation in the historic event.
A day of dialogue and solidarity
The schedule kicks off at 11:00 AM with a meeting at Kouté, where militants from COJEP will share their vision for the celebrations. Following this, Bictogo will proceed to Sicogi Vegas at 3:00 PM to meet with PDCI-RDA supporters, then to the RHDP headquarters at 4:00 PM. The day concludes at 5:00 PM in the Maroc Kimi neighborhood, where FPI activists will gather for discussions.
This cross-party outreach reflects the Committee’s commitment to inclusivity, aiming to unite all political sensibilities behind the national celebration. Yopougon, known for its rich political and social diversity, has been chosen as the host commune—a symbolic choice that underscores the event’s unifying mission.
From planning to participation
Since July 13, organizers have been laying the groundwork, convening representatives from RHDP, PDCI-RDA, FPI, and COJEP to form preparatory commissions. At that kickoff meeting, Bictogo emphasized the critical need for unified leadership: “Success depends on a single command structure.” He urged all parties to adopt a “discourse of peace and unity,” warning against any perception that the event favors one group over another. “This is not about benefiting one party—it’s about elevating all of us,” he stated.
The tour represents a final push to galvanize grassroots support, ensuring every neighborhood in Yopougon plays an active role in what promises to be a landmark celebration—a first for the commune. As the countdown to August 7th continues, the message is clear: this is a moment to celebrate Côte d’Ivoire’s identity, together.
