WAPCO (Niger), in partnership with the local livestock department, recently successfully concluded a comprehensive animal vaccination and deworming drive in the Zinder region. This vital program reached more than 10,000 animals across seven pastoral settlements, including areas like N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker. This achievement marks the successful completion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s « Communautés en bonne santé » (Healthy Communities) public welfare activities, which have now extended to all communities situated along the pipeline’s route.
To further bolster the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) strategically leveraged its internal medical resources. Utilizing on-site medical personnel and essential medicines, the company launched two successful pilot programs for free community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These initiatives garnered significant positive feedback from residents. Building on this success, a more extensive needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official commencement of the first phase of the « Communautés en bonne santé » program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven free community medical outreach events, providing healthcare services to 1,249 local individuals, and has also donated a crucial tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the implementation of the free medical consultations, WAPCO (Niger)’s team recognized that livestock represents a fundamental source of income and livelihood for many local families, and that herders had an urgent need for animal healthcare. Responding directly to these community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) expanded the scope of its « Communautés en bonne santé » initiatives. Collaborating with local livestock authorities and other relevant organizations, WAPCO (Niger) delivered vaccination and deworming services to over 20,000 animals across three key pastoral gathering points along the pipeline, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their essential productive assets.

Since its inception, WAPCO (Niger) has steadfastly upheld a commitment to mutual benefit and shared growth as a responsible corporate entity. While ensuring the secure and efficient operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) consistently champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), provides public welfare donations, and offers direct aid to communities. Through these efforts, it actively contributes to improving local living standards and fostering social progress, thereby enhancing the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating a supportive external environment for the pipeline’s safe operation.
Moving forward, WAPCO (Niger) is dedicated to conducting more in-depth assessments of community needs, ensuring that its interventions precisely address the expectations of communities residing near the pipeline. The company will continuously broaden the reach of its public welfare initiatives, striving for a greater number of residents to benefit from shared development. While ensuring the safe and uninterrupted flow of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to work hand-in-hand with local communities, implementing tangible actions to uplift livelihoods and promote a symbiotic relationship of mutual growth and shared prosperity between the company and the people it serves.
