The meeting, held at the residence of Mohamed Lemine Nafa, a member of the Sahrawi Peace Movement’s permanent political commission, was convened at the request of the American diplomatic mission and brought together key leaders and cadres from the organization.

During the discussions, representatives of the Sahrawi Peace Movement outlined their organizational milestones over the past six years and presented their vision for conflict resolution. They also addressed questions from the American delegation regarding the current status of the Western Sahara dossier.

The movement’s leaders emphasized the necessity of integrating the Sahrawi Peace Movement into the United Nations-sponsored negotiation process, positioning it as a legitimate framework uniting Sahrawi voices advocating for a peaceful political solution. They stressed that any negotiation process aimed at achieving a lasting solution must include all representations and stakeholders within Sahrawi society.

The American political counselor expressed Washington’s strong commitment to resolving the conflict and ending the current impasse. He highlighted U.S. opposition to maintaining the status quo and reaffirmed support for initiatives that could revive the political process toward a definitive resolution.

The U.S. diplomat commended the Sahrawi Peace Movement, describing it as an active and committed Sahrawi voice in pursuit of negotiated solutions. He underscored America’s particular interest in supporting Sahrawi voices that prioritize agreements guaranteeing regional stability and security, which could unlock diplomatic pathways and overcome the confrontational dynamics that have hindered past solution efforts.

This meeting follows a series of engagements between the United States and the Sahrawi Peace Movement, including a delegation visit to New York where they met with permanent ambassadors from the U.S., France, and the U.K. to the U.N.

The discussion took place ahead of the U.N. Security Council session reviewing the implementation of Resolution 2797, which has garnered broad international consensus in favor of advancing a political and peaceful solution to the Western Sahara question.
