On Thursday, July 30, 2026, Togolese Council President Faure Gnassingbé welcomed Luiz Ivaldo Villafañe Gomes Santos, Brazil’s ambassador to Togo, for a working meeting in Lomé. During the discussions, the Brazilian diplomat outlined the current state of relations between Lomé and Brasília, highlighting potential areas for deeper cooperation across shared priorities. He emphasized Brazil’s readiness to expand this collaboration to benefit both populations.
« We reviewed the deep-rooted ties between our nations, the bonds of friendship and cooperation, and reaffirmed our shared determination to further strengthen these relations for mutual progress », stated Luiz Ivaldo Villafañe Gomes Santos after the meeting.

Diplomatic ties between Togo and Brazil, established in 1972, have evolved to encompass key sectors such as agriculture, security, vocational training, and technological exchange. A significant milestone was reached in November 2018 with the signing of a reciprocal visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports in Lomé.
This meeting reaffirms both countries’ dedication to deepening bilateral cooperation and aligning their positions on regional and global challenges.
