Togo accelerates aviation energy transition with durable fuel initiatives

Togo is advancing its aviation modernization agenda through two landmark agreements designed to bolster the sector’s energy transition and strengthen fuel supply infrastructure at Lomé-Tokoin International Airport. Signed between the Lomé-Tokoin Airport Authority (SALT) and T-OIL, the nation’s state-owned petroleum enterprise, these partnerships mark a significant step toward integrating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into the country’s operations.

Under the terms of the deals, a new 1,500 cubic meter Jet A1 storage tank will be constructed on the airport’s premises, enhancing fuel resilience and ensuring consistent supply for airlines operating from the capital. The initiatives were formalized during the 2026 edition of the African Airports and Airlines Annual Assembly (AATCE), hosted in Lomé, reinforcing Togo’s commitment to cleaner, more sustainable aviation practices.

Decarbonizing air travel while boosting regional connectivity

The agreements reflect a broader national strategy to reduce carbon emissions in aviation, aligning with global industry demands for greener operations. By prioritizing SAF adoption, Togo is positioning itself as a forward-thinking aviation hub in West Africa, capable of meeting both environmental and operational challenges.
