Tchad’s media landscape set for transformation
The media sector in Tchad is poised for significant advancement following the signing of a landmark partnership between the Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT) and the Association des Médias en Ligne du Tchad (AMET) in N’Djamena. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in aligning academic journalism education with real-world media practices.
Key initiatives under the partnership
The agreement outlines a multi-faceted approach to elevate professional standards across the Tchadian media industry. Among the core components are:
- Professional internships: ISJCT students will gain hands-on experience through structured internships within AMET-affiliated media outlets, bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional journalism.
- Continuous professional development: A tailored training program will be rolled out for journalists, editors, newsroom managers, and media executives. Topics will include digital journalism, fact-checking, newsroom management, media business models, artificial intelligence applications, journalistic ethics, journalist safety, and emerging industry challenges.
- Institutional visibility: The partnership will amplify ISJCT’s reach by leveraging AMET’s extensive network of media professionals and organizations, fostering greater collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Voices from the forefront
« A journalism school cannot thrive in isolation from media professionals,» stated Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, a key figure behind the ISJCT project. « Media outlets serve as our educational partners, practical training grounds, and future employers for our graduates. This partnership is a natural and essential step toward excellence. »
Bello Bakary Mana, President of AMET, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the mutual benefits of the collaboration. « This initiative empowers media enterprises to actively shape the training of the next generation while providing professionals with avenues to enhance their skills,» he explained. « With ISJCT, the path to excellence is within reach. »
Building a foundation for the future
The ISJCT, an initiative by the NGO MEDEV, is backed by international partners including the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie. The institute is scheduled to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026, with ambitious goals to become a premier center for journalism education, research, innovation, and professional development in media-related fields.
By integrating academic rigor with industry expertise, the ISJCT aims to cultivate a new generation of journalists and media professionals equipped to navigate the evolving demands of the profession in Tchad and beyond.
