Sonko’s firm stance against delaying local elections in 2027

Speaking to the nation, he emphasized that such a move would be unacceptable, especially in light of the sacrifices made by three individuals who lost their lives to prevent a previous delay in the presidential election.

« These elections were not called due to an emergency or exceptional circumstances,» Sonko stated. « They are part of the constitutional electoral process, and we will not tolerate any maneuvers to derail them. The people must be allowed to exercise their democratic right in January 2027.»
