Sonko’s courtoisies at touba ahead of grand magal 2026

Touba, Senegal — With the Grand Magal of Touba just days away on August 2, 2026, the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, made a courtesy call to the holy city of Touba. He was received by the Khalife General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, in an atmosphere steeped in reverence and spirituality.

Honoring a spiritual legacy

During the meeting, Sonko extended his deepest respects to the religious leader, emphasizing the profound significance of the Grand Magal. He highlighted its spiritual and historical importance, recalling the exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of the Mouride brotherhood. The event embodies timeless values such as faith, perseverance, hard work, and peace—principles that resonate deeply with millions of followers in Senegal and beyond.

Sonko also underscored Touba’s pivotal role as both a religious and social hub, reinforcing national stability and unity. He praised the enduring influence of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s teachings, which continue to shape lives across generations.

A call for unity and collective progress

In response, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké reiterated his call for peace, national unity, and social cohesion. Amidst the country’s evolving challenges, he urged Senegalese citizens to unite around the values of solidarity and brotherhood, fostering a collective spirit of resilience.

The Khalife General offered prayers not only for Sonko but for the entire Senegalese people, invoking blessings of peace, prosperity, and stability for the nation.
