Maimouna Sène challenges Ousmane Sonko: legal action required over claims
In a sharp response to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Maimouna Sène, a leading figure in the Alliance Pour la République (APR), has called for concrete legal action rather than political rhetoric. The former parliamentarian accused Sonko of using accountability debates as a tool for political maneuvering rather than addressing pressing national issues.

Accountability as institutional duty, not political tool
Maimouna Sène argued that accountability should remain an institutional obligation, free from political interference. She criticized what she described as “judicial populism” and “diversions,” emphasizing that legal proceedings must be allowed to unfold without external pressures. Her remarks specifically targeted Sonko’s recent statements demanding transparency from government officials.
“If credible evidence exists,” Sène asserted, “the proper course is to submit it to the courts and permit judges to deliberate without interference.”
Economic and social priorities must lead governance
Beyond legal disputes, Sène stressed that Senegal’s leadership should prioritize economic recovery and social welfare. She highlighted urgent concerns including inflation control, job creation, and economic revitalization as areas requiring immediate attention.
Calling for action over rhetoric, the APR leader urged Sonko to demonstrate leadership through tangible results rather than public declarations. She also emphasized the need for exemplary conduct in public service, urging the Prime Minister to set a standard for integrity and responsibility.
