Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam reaffirms unwavering support for Ousmane Sonko

In a turbulent political landscape where loyalty is constantly scrutinized, Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam, newly appointed head of Senegal’s shipping council, has publicly declared her allegiance to opposition leader Ousmane Sonko.
As the director-general of Senegal’s Conseil Sénégalais des Chargeurs (COSEC), Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam has openly endorsed Ousmane Sonko, a move that comes at a time of heightened political tension between Sonko and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Appointed to her position in May 2024 following the departure of Abdoulaye Diop, Thiam’s statement arrives as multiple public officials face growing scrutiny over their political stances.
In a social media post that has since sparked widespread discussion, Thiam shared a piece of advice she received before her appointment. She revealed that a close associate had urged her to remain steadfast in her support for Ousmane Sonko, regardless of how the political situation evolves.
« Politics is unpredictable. Circumstances can shift, even leading to divisions. When that moment comes, ensure you are counted among Ousmane’s most loyal supporters. He will always turn to you when he looks back, » she recounted.
Concluding her message with a direct reference, she added, « You know who you are, dear brother. And yes, Ousmane will see me. »
This bold declaration comes against a backdrop of deepening political uncertainty, where alliances and loyalties within the ruling majority are increasingly under the microscope.
