Sénégal is experiencing fresh political turbulence following the announcement of Malick Ndiaye’s resignation as President of the National Assembly on May 24, 2026.
In a statement shared on social media, Ndiaye revealed his decision to relinquish his position, citing a personal commitment to institutional integrity and the nation’s greater good.
« After careful and introspective consideration, I have resolved to step down from my role as President of the National Assembly of the Sénégal, » he stated. « This choice stems from my unwavering belief in the sanctity of public service and the paramount importance of national interests. »
The resignation comes just 48 hours after a sharp political rift unfolded between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko. On the evening of May 22, the President of the Republic dismissed the Prime Minister amid escalating tensions, triggering a full cabinet reshuffle.
The political landscape in Dakar is now rapidly evolving, with further developments expected in the coming days.
