Senegal mourns death of serigne abdou bakhi mbacke

The passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, has left the nation in mourning. The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the religious leader’s death on July 9, 2026.

Sonko expressed his profound sorrow in a public statement, honoring the memory of the esteemed guide and extending his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Senegal.

« With deep emotion and overwhelming sadness, I learned of the departure of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, » he wrote. « His warmth, hospitality, and kindness during my visits to Guinguinéo left an indelible mark on me. »

The President of the National Assembly recalled the close bond he shared with the late religious figure, highlighting the spiritual leader’s unwavering compassion and guidance. « In this difficult time, I offer my sincerest condolences to the family, the Mouride community, the people of Guinguinéo, and all Senegalese, » he stated.

Concluding his message, Sonko prayed for divine mercy, saying, « May Allah, in His boundless compassion, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into eternal paradise. »
