Psg champions league win sparks violent clashes and arrests across France

PSG’s Champions League triumph triggers riots and mass arrests in France

A total of 780 people were taken into custody across France following the victory, according to Interior Ministry figures—a 32% surge compared to the same night in 2025, when Paris Saint-Germain last claimed Europe’s top club prize.

As the final whistle blew in Istanbul, the Parc des Princes erupted into celebration after Paris Saint-Germain secured a dramatic Champions League victory over Arsenal in a penalty shootout. Yet within minutes, the jubilation turned to chaos as violent clashes and widespread vandalism spread through the streets of Paris and beyond.

Over 48,000 fans filled the stadium, their voices echoing with chants of « Champions d’Europe », « Ici c’est Paris », and « Luis Enrique » as fireworks lit up the pitch. The euphoria was palpable—until the first signs of disorder emerged.

celebration turns to crisis

Despite deploying a massive security force of 22,000 officers and gendarmes—including 8,000 in Paris and its suburbs—violence still flared. The toll was severe: 219 people injured, eight in critical condition. The Interior Minister confirmed that 57 police officers and gendarmes were also hurt, one seriously in Agen.

A fatal crash occurred just after 1:10 AM on the outer ring road’s exit ramp near Porte Maillot. Witnesses reported a motocross rider colliding head-on with concrete blocks—deliberately placed there, according to authorities. The 24-year-old rider, born in 2002, was pronounced dead at 2:20 AM. An investigation into the circumstances is underway.

Around 4:00 AM, a stabbing incident unfolded in Paris’s 16th arrondissement. Four assailants wielding knives left a 17-year-old male with life-threatening injuries to his eye and mouth. He was rushed to a Paris hospital in a coma. The attackers fled before police arrived.

Nationwide, authorities reported 780 arrests, with disturbances also reported in Grenoble, Dijon, and Besançon. In Paris, 150 people attempted to force entry into the Parc des Princes but were repelled by police.

massive turnout expected for public celebration

The Eiffel Tower had already dazzled in PSG’s colors the night before. Now, organizers expect up to 100,000 fans to gather on the Champ-de-Mars on Sunday afternoon to honor the team and staff, who will later visit the Élysée Palace and return to Parc des Princes.
