The collaboration between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko was built on shared promises—yet many remained unfulfilled. One such pledge was the reform of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, a commitment they jointly abandoned despite its critical importance to judicial independence.

Similarly, calls to appoint leaders based on merit were ignored, contradicting their own electoral program. Another broken promise was the repeal of the amnesty law, which they left untouched despite widespread criticism. Even the regulation of political funds, a reform within their legislative reach, was delayed until after securing a majority in the National Assembly.

From broken promises to political maneuvering

Now, as tensions rise between the two leaders, some are exploiting this rift to distract from deeper governance failures. The National Assembly, a pillar of democracy, deserves better than petty score-settling and staged conflicts. Shared responsibilities cannot be erased by manufactured divisions.
