Cameroon’s representation at the AU summit

President Paul Biya of Cameroon has designated Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute to attend the 21st extraordinary session of the African Union Conference of Heads of State and Government in Luanda. This crucial gathering will primarily focus on enhancing the continent’s frameworks for African conflict prevention and resolution, a key aspect of African governance.

Despite his recent high-profile return to Yaoundé, President Biya will not be physically present in Luanda for the African Union’s 21st extraordinary session of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for August 30. Instead, the Head of State has entrusted Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute with the vital responsibility of representing Cameroon’s interests at this significant assembly, addressing pressing African current affairs.

The Head of Government departed Yaoundé on Saturday, heading for Luanda, Angola. This extraordinary session is specifically dedicated to bolstering mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution across Africa. Key regional challenges, including the Boko Haram insurgency in Cameroon’s Far North region and the ongoing separatist crisis in the Anglophone regions, are among the critical issues expected to be addressed.

Following his engagement in Angola, Prime Minister Ngute is slated to travel to Serbia. There, he will again represent President Paul Biya at a high-level meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the inaugural Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries. This event is scheduled to take place in Belgrade from August 31 to September 1, 2026.
