Pahimi Padacké Albert urges unity and reconciliation for Chad’s independence

As Chad prepares to commemorate its 66th independence anniversary on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, who leads the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and is a prominent opposition figure, has issued a heartfelt plea for national unity, appeasement, and reconciliation.

In his statement marking this significant national holiday, the former Prime Minister addressed the Chadian populace with a tone he described as one of “humility, gravity, and responsibility.”

Pahimi Padacké Albert observed that this upcoming celebration unfolds against a political backdrop characterized by underlying tensions and widespread frustrations. “We are observing our freedom this year amidst a climate of silent yet profound political tension, alongside frustrations stemming from a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,” he articulated.

Responding to this challenging environment, the head of RNDT-Le Réveil advocated for enhanced dialogue and greater openness within the political sphere. “Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, for calm, for a spirit of openness, and for the reconciliation of hearts across our nation,” he further emphasized.

Within his message, Pahimi Padacké Albert directly implored the President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to enact measures designed to strengthen national cohesion and foster a more inclusive African governance framework.

“On the eve of this commemoration, I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and primarily upon the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May resolute decisions emerge to overcome feelings of exclusion and more effectively unite our people within the Chadian family. May the constitutional mechanisms at the Head of State’s disposal be leveraged to restore liberty to political actors whose rightful place is not behind bars. May a genuine political opening, built upon sincere, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, solidify this drive for appeasement, while honoring the rich political, cultural, and religious diversity of the country’s sons and daughters,” he declared.
