Ousmane Sonko warns PASTEF supporters: avoid provocations and stay united

In a charged address to his supporters in Bambey this past Saturday, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, issued a stern warning against potential provocations designed to destabilize the movement. With tensions rising across the political landscape, Sonko urged his militants to remain steadfast and avoid falling into traps set by adversaries.

Anticipating provocations and protecting the movement

Sonko highlighted that his camp could face multiple forms of provocation—some directly targeting his person. These maneuvers, he explained, are calculated to provoke reactions from his followers and trigger unrest nationwide. « They will resort to every kind of provocation, » he stated. « Some will be aimed at me personally, even using state services to undermine our struggle. »

The PASTEF president emphasized that his opponents believe weakening him is the key to shaking the movement and destabilizing the country. « Their strategy hinges on the idea that targeting me will fracture Pastef and plunge Senegal into chaos, » he asserted. « But we will not allow it. »

Defending party activities and national stability

Sonko also condemned alleged restrictions imposed on PASTEF’s activities, particularly those related to membership card distribution drives. Despite these challenges, he reassured the nation that Senegal will not relapse into the turmoil of recent periods. Stressing his commitment to stability, he declared, « Senegal will not endure those dark days again as long as I stand in its defense. » Manipulations, he added, will have no effect on the collective resolve of his supporters.

His remarks come amid a shifting political climate, with the emergence of a new presidential party led by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and ongoing discussions about the future of Senegal’s political forces. Sonko’s message served as both a rallying cry and a call for unity, urging militants to stay focused on their shared goals.
