In a significant development for religious affairs in the region, Niamey, the capital city of Niger, recently hosted a specialized training workshop designed for local religious cadres. This crucial session was orchestrated by the Ligue des oulémas, prêcheurs et imams du Sahel (LOPIS) in close collaboration with the Unité de fusion et de liaison (UNFL).
The central focus of the program was on “Building Intellectual Immunity and Deconstructing Radicalized Discourse.” Participants, including prominent imams, preachers, and other religious leaders from Niger, engaged in intensive discussions and practical exercises aimed at fortifying their communities against extremist ideologies. The initiative underscores a proactive approach to empowering religious figures with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to counter harmful narratives and promote a message of peace and moderation within the Sahel region.
