Municipal leaders unite to strengthen urban planning

The validation workshop for the Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT) strategic documents convened in N’Djamena, drawing municipal directors, technical leaders, administrative officials, and experts from the Center for Innovation and Development (CID). The gathering, held at the Radisson Blu, underscored the agency’s critical role in addressing Chad’s urbanization challenges.

Mayor outlines AMGT’s mission and vision

Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, Mayor of N’Djamena, opened the session by reflecting on the agency’s origins. He noted that the inaugural meeting of the AMGT Board of Directors had set the stage for clearer understanding of the structure’s purpose, challenges, and ambitions. The AMGT was established to empower the commune with the tools to design, fund, and execute transformative projects that align with public needs and the capital’s growth trajectory.

“From rapid urban expansion to demographic pressures, strained infrastructure, sanitation gaps, and climate resilience demands, N’Djamena faces complex challenges,” Abdoulaye stated. “The AMGT is positioned to lead the delivery of essential infrastructure and services that will foster balanced, sustainable development.”

Collaborative validation drives institutional strength

The Mayor urged participants to engage deeply, sharing insights and recommendations to refine the submitted documents. These include the Administrative, Financial, and Accounting Management Manual, designed to streamline resource management and performance tracking; the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, aimed at enhancing accountability and operational efficiency; and the Environmental, Social, and Gender Management Framework, which embeds sustainability, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship into every initiative.

“The success of this mission depends on robust organization, transparent governance, and rigorous procedural integrity,” he emphasized. “Only through collective expertise and shared commitment can we build an AMGT capable of meeting N’Djamena’s evolving needs.”
