Cameroon’s national broadcaster, CRTV, in Yaoundé’s Nlongkak district, witnessed an unusual incident on June 12, 2026. Johann Adriel Sitchom Kuate arrived at the headquarters with documents he claimed were official presidential decrees, including one allegedly appointing him as Vice President of the Republic.

Witnesses noted the documents appeared authentic at first glance, a detail that initially convinced staff to consider broadcasting them as per standard procedure for such announcements.

However, CRTV employees grew suspicious and alerted top state officials, who were in Geneva at the time. Upon verification, the documents were confirmed as counterfeit. The signature on the decree matched the name of the individual who presented them.

Investigations by authorities have since classified the incident as a deliberate attempt to undermine state security, leading to formal charges against Kuate. The case raises questions: was this an isolated act of deception or part of a broader, calculated scheme to destabilize institutions?

As legal proceedings unfold, Kuate now faces accusations that could carry severe consequences under Cameroonian law.
