Mamadou Sangaré joins Brentford in record deal after stellar Lens season

Mamadou Sangaré is set to begin a new chapter following a standout season in Ligue 1. The talented Malian midfielder has finalized his move to Brentford FC, as confirmed by RC Lens in an official statement that did not disclose the transfer fee, though British media outlets estimate the deal at over €45 million.

Sangaré, who arrived in France last summer from Rapid Wien, has signed a five-year contract with Brentford, making him the London club’s most expensive signing to date.

His departure from Lens comes after a remarkable season where he established himself as a key player in the starting lineup, secured victory in the Coupe de France, and claimed the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foé award, given to the top African player in Ligue 1.

Brentford’s head coach, Keith Andrews, expressed confidence in the player’s future impact: “Mamadou has been on our radar for some time. He embodies everything we look for in a Brentford player—on the pitch and beyond. I believe he will quickly win over the fans.”

Lens, meanwhile, reflected on a season filled with memorable moments alongside the Malian international, wishing him continued success in his career. Born in Bamako, Sangaré was first scouted by Red Bull Salzburg after impressing at the Yeelen Olympique academy in Mali’s capital.
