Mali army regains control in key battlegrounds against armed groups

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full operational control over regions previously contested by armed factions in the northern and central zones of the country. This follows coordinated clashes with the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in the north and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, active in central and southern Mali.

According to an official military statement, combat operations continued on Sunday near Anifif, located roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of reinforcements for the MNLA. The FAMA emphasized that their troops engaged with unwavering resolve, sustaining operations throughout the day with professionalism and bravery.

In a show of confidence, the army reaffirmed its commitment to preserving national unity, territorial integrity, and civilian safety, vowing to dismantle enemy forces across the country.

In a separate statement, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, spokesperson for the MNLA, asserted that his group maintained operational dominance in the Anifif area following the resumption of hostilities. He categorically refuted reports suggesting the death of the movement’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
