Maïmouna Sène, a leading figure within the National Executive Secretariat of the Alliance Pour la République (APR), has issued a stinging rebuke of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The former legislator accused the head of government of employing “judicial populism” as a smokescreen to divert attention away from the country’s critical economic needs.
The APR official reminded the Pastef leader that while the principle of accountability is a legitimate institutional requirement, it must not be exploited as a “political communication tool.” She suggested that such tactics are being used to conceal the executive branch’s inability to steer Sénégal back onto the path of sustainable emergence. For the former MP, the primary concerns of the Senegalese public remain economic recovery, the generation of employment, and the urgent need to curb inflation, rather than engaging in what she describes as a “witch hunt” or the settling of political scores.
“If you possess evidence, bring it before the courts and allow the judiciary to operate without interference,” Maïmouna Sène asserted. She emphasized that the mandate given by the people of Sénégal was not to fixate on the past or pursue vendettas, but to stabilize prices, create jobs, and revitalize the national economy. Challenging the Prime Minister’s approach, she noted that integrity should begin at home, calling for the same standards of accountability to be applied within his own political camp before targeting opponents. Demanding tangible results over verbal intimidation, she urged the administration to move beyond rhetoric and deliver concrete actions for the population.
