Legal action filed against Ousmane Sonko over Touba comments

A group of Serigne Touba descendants announces legal action against Ousmane Sonko

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Prosecutor of the Republic at the Dakar High Court against Ousmane Sonko, currently serving as both the President of the National Assembly and leader of the PASTEF party.

The complaint originates from a collective representing the grandchildren of Serigne Touba. Their legal filing seeks an investigation into remarks made by Mr. Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters, where he alleged that “dirty money entered the sacred city of Touba.”

The plaintiffs, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, business operators, and direct descendants of Touba’s founder, argue that these statements have tarnished the honor, reputation, and dignity of the holy city and its residents.

In their petition, they urge the Prosecutor to initiate an inquiry, summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify his remarks, and provide evidence supporting his claims. Additionally, they request a full investigation to determine the veracity of these allegations.
