The political atmosphere in Sénégal has grown increasingly tense following sharp public exchanges between prominent figures. Former Sports Minister Khady Diène Gaye has strongly rejected assertions made by Abdourahmane Diouf regarding Ousmane Sonko and a proposed debt restructuring plan.

Khady Diène Gaye refutes debt restructuring claims

The dispute centers on allegations that Ousmane Sonko, the current President of the National Assembly and former Prime Minister, had given his consent to a financial debt restructuring. Khady Diène Gaye, who previously served in the cabinet alongside Abdourahmane Diouf, expressed her absolute shock at these statements. She made it clear that she was utterly stunned to hear such claims being attributed to the Pastef leader.

In a direct and uncompromising response, the Pastef official accused Abdourahmane Diouf of spreading outright fabrications. “Dramane has failed everywhere! And now, we are seeing grotesque lies!” she declared, expressing her deep disbelief that anyone would suggest Ousmane Sonko supported a debt restructuring agreement.

Personal and professional criticisms of the minister

The confrontation extended beyond policy disagreements, as Khady Diène Gaye launched a direct critique of Abdourahmane Diouf’s career path. She asserted that he had exhausted all options and failed repeatedly in his attempts to establish himself professionally upon returning to the country, pointing specifically to an unsuccessful attempt to pass the bar exam between 2007 and 2008.

Furthermore, the former minister accused Abdourahmane Diouf of entering the political arena purely out of self-interest. In her view, he turned to politics as a means of personal advancement rather than a commitment to public service. Despite the severity of her remarks, Khady Diène Gaye concluded by urging Pastef supporters and all patriotic citizens to remain united and focused on building a sovereign, prosperous, and fair Sénégal.
