Hajj 2026 first return flight lands in Ouagadougou with prayers for Burkina Faso

The inaugural group of Burkinabè pilgrims touched down in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, marking the official start of the return phase for the country’s faithful after weeks of spiritual devotion in Islam’s holiest sites.

The first flight, carrying 342 pilgrims, was greeted with warm embraces from family members and official representatives at the international airport. Their arrival signaled the beginning of a carefully coordinated process to welcome home those who had undertaken the fifth pillar of Islam.

Clad in vibrant traditional attire, the pilgrims radiated joy and relief, their faces reflecting the deep fulfillment of fulfilling this sacred obligation. Among them was Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné, whose emotions were visibly stirred as she stepped onto Burkinabè soil.

Mecca exceeded all my expectations. As a first-time pilgrim, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Everything unfolded flawlessly… We prayed fervently for the restoration of peace and social harmony across Burkina Faso,” she shared with unmistakable emotion.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Saïdou Sankara, acknowledged the smooth execution of this year’s pilgrimage, confirming no major incidents had marred the journey. Speaking on behalf of the government, he conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the returning pilgrims.

Tonight, we celebrate a moment of profound satisfaction and joy, welcoming our brothers and sisters home safely after their spiritual voyage. On behalf of the Minister of State, we have come to honor their return and extend our warmest congratulations.

May this sacred journey deepen their faith and may the prayers offered in Mecca find fulfillment—not only for them and their loved ones but for the entire nation,” he affirmed.
