Benin appoints Claudy Siar as Presidential Cultural Mission envoy
The renowned broadcaster of Couleurs Tropicales has been named to a key cultural role within the administration.
Renowned broadcaster Claudy Siar has been appointed by President Romuald Wadagni as Special Envoy for Culture, Media, and National Visibility.
This appointment marks a significant chapter for the outspoken panafricanist and media personality who built his reputation on Couleurs Tropicales, a program he helmed for over three decades. The show concluded its run in March 2026 when Siar departed Radio France Internationale (RFI), a transition that followed strategic program restructuring and the expiration of his contract.
Siar’s departure from RFI came amid reports of editorial differences regarding his advocacy for African perspectives and critiques of Western policies. The network cited a shift in musical programming strategy as the reason for the change. Throughout his career, Siar has been a vocal advocate for continental unity and development, using his platform to challenge global narratives about Africa.
With more than 31 years of experience at RFI, Siar now embarks on a new venture with NewWorld TV, where he will contribute to the launch of NewWorld Mix and NewWorld Muzik channels. His appointment to this presidential role underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging cultural diplomacy and media innovation to enhance Benin’s international profile.
