Granit Xhaka agrees personal terms with premier league giant Chelsea
Granit Xhaka is poised for a significant move to Chelsea, with the London club having already tabled a substantial €30 million offer for the midfielder. The 33-year-old Swiss international has now reportedly reached a personal verbal agreement with the Blues, signaling his strong intent to join the Premier League powerhouse.
Reports confirm that a comprehensive understanding on personal terms has been established between Xhaka and Chelsea. Furthermore, Chelsea is actively engaged in discussions with Sunderland, Xhaka’s current club, to finalize the transfer. It is understood that Xabi Alonso is a key figure pushing for Xhaka’s arrival, leveraging their shared history at Bayer Leverkusen where they played together from 2023 to 2025.
Xhaka’s illustrious career began at FC Basel, followed by stints at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal, and Leverkusen. He joined Sunderland a year ago for a fee of €15 million, where he quickly became an integral part of the squad.
During his time with Sunderland, who impressed last season by securing a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, Xhaka featured in 36 official matches. In these appearances, the midfielder contributed with one goal and six assists, showcasing his playmaking abilities.
Despite his current contract with Sunderland extending until mid-2028, and a market valuation currently estimated at eight million euros, Chelsea’s determination to secure the experienced player is evident with their robust offer.
The left-footed maestro, boasting an impressive 149 international caps, is currently leading Switzerland as captain in the ongoing World Cup. He has demonstrated his endurance and importance to the national team by playing every single minute of their group stage campaign. Switzerland successfully topped Group B and is now set to face a third-placed team in the next round of the tournament.
