Dakar court postpones mame mbaye niang and ousmane sonko case to july 2026

The Dakar High Court has once again delayed proceedings in the legal dispute between Mame Mbaye Niang and Ousmane Sonko, rescheduling the case for July 22, 2026. The postponement was granted after a request from Sonko’s legal team, who sought additional time to address newly filed arguments in the case.

At the heart of the conflict is a 200 million CFA franc judgment debt owed by Sonko to Niang, following a final court ruling that mandated a two-month prison term and financial compensation. Niang, who secured the verdict, has since encountered roadblocks in recovering the funds, particularly after discovering that the disputed property—a villa in Keur Gorgui—had allegedly been transferred to Sonko’s family.

The transfer, which occurred on a 264m² plot (lot R/17), is viewed by Niang’s legal representatives as a deliberate tactic to shield Sonko’s assets from seizure. They argue that the move was orchestrated to render him financially insolvent, thereby obstructing the enforcement of the court’s monetary award. The villa, originally registered under Sonko’s name, now appears under his family’s ownership, raising suspicions of fraudulent conveyance.

The case, which was initially adjourned on June 10, was reopened to allow Niang’s attorneys to prepare counterarguments against Sonko’s defense filings. The upcoming hearing will be pivotal in determining whether the property transfer stands or if the court will intervene to uphold the previous judgment.
