crackdown on illegal slaughterhouse network in N’Djamena

In a coordinated effort to enforce animal health regulations ahead of Tabaski celebrations, authorities dismantled an illegal slaughter operation in N’Djamena’s Machaga neighborhood, 8th arrondissement. The joint team, comprising the Ministry of Livestock, Veterinary Police, and security forces, seized over 100 cattle and 40 sheep in poor health condition. These animals had been procured by an unnamed international NGO, reportedly with local accomplices, and were intended as charitable donations for Tabaski festivities.

On the day following the raid, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, inspected the site on May 28, 2026. Upon confirming the violations, he condemned the operation and enforced strict measures: diseased animals must be incinerated, salvageable livestock placed under veterinary care, and heightened public health monitoring initiated to safeguard consumers.
