The Ministry of Mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently hosted the official awards ceremony for the “BUANYA” excellence competition. This significant event took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hôtel in Kinshasa, celebrating innovative proposals aimed at enhancing the Congolese mining sector.
Initiated by Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, the competition sought to engage graduates from the National School of Administration (ENA) in developing strategic solutions for the country’s vital mining industry. The ceremony saw the presence of the Secretary-General for Mines, leaders of various supervisory bodies, jury members, participating ENA graduates, and numerous distinguished guests. The highlight was the announcement of results and the presentation of awards to the winning teams.
Over several weeks, 48 ENA graduates, organized into six distinct teams, conducted extensive research and in-depth analysis. Their work focused on critical aspects of the DRC mining sector, including governance frameworks, ensuring transparency and traceability of resources, combating fraud, regulating artisanal mining operations, geological exploration, the equitable distribution of sector benefits, and fostering the development of new mining projects.
Minister Watum Kabamba underscored the Democratic Republic of Congo’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. He emphasized that this strategic position necessitates transforming the nation’s rich mineral resources into genuine drivers of development, creating employment opportunities, modern infrastructure, and high-quality social services. The minister also urged the laureates to embody excellence, integrity, and a commitment to change, reiterating that future African governance in the mining sector must be built on meritocracy, innovation, transparency, and accountability for results.
This initiative aligns perfectly with the vision of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, implemented under the coordination of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka. Their administration prioritizes the development of human capital and robust good governance as central pillars of public action. The ceremony concluded on a collaborative note with a group photo, marking the successful culmination of an enriching experience and paving the way for increased involvement of young administrative professionals in the ongoing transformation of the Congolese mining landscape.
