Burkina Faso security review highlights progress in Nayala province

The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, led a high-level assessment mission to the Nayala province on Sunday, following direct instructions from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The objective was to assess the evolving security landscape, boost morale among deployed forces, and gather firsthand feedback from local communities on their immediate concerns.

The delegation, which included the Governor of the Bankui region and local administrative leaders, began consultations with traditional authorities in Toma. Subsequent meetings involved provincial officials and heads of key service sectors, providing a platform to address ongoing challenges in health, education, and public sector mobility across certain districts.

During the tour, Minister Sana engaged with Burkina Faso’s Forces de défense et de sécurité (FDS), the Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP), the Dozos, and other community leaders. He conveyed the President’s commendations and the government’s recognition for their efforts in restoring security and enabling displaced populations to return to previously abandoned villages.

In his address to the security forces, he highlighted their bravery, dedication, and professionalism, urging them to uphold discipline, maintain vigilance, and strengthen unity. He emphasized the critical need for deeper collaboration between civilians and security personnel to sustain progress in counterterrorism operations.

Residents in Kougny and Gassan shared positive feedback during the visit, acknowledging the authorities’ commitment to re-establishing safety and facilitating the resettlement process in conflict-affected areas.

Concluding the mission, Mahamadou Sana expressed optimism about the improved security situation in Nayala and praised the growing partnership between communities and defense forces. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering resolve to pursue initiatives that ensure long-term peace and stability not only in the province but across the entire nation.
