The ceremonial hall fell silent as the Constitutional Court delivered its verdict, validating the presidential election results. Dressed in a deep blue suit and tie, Romuald Wadagni stepped forward to take the oath of office, his right hand raised high. With unwavering conviction, he vowed to uphold the Constitution and accept full legal consequences for any breach of that oath. The declaration was met with thunderous cannon fire, marking the beginning of a new era for the nation.

Moments later, Wadagni was officially invested as Grand Maître of the national orders, a symbolic role reserved for the head of state. Following tradition, the Chief of Staff presented him with the national flag, symbolizing the transfer of authority and responsibility.

In his inaugural address, Wadagni pledged to lead with integrity, courage, and steadfast dedication. He emphasized his commitment to the rule of law and the protection of fundamental freedoms. To the people of Bénin, he promised inclusive economic growth, ensuring that every family would benefit from national progress. On matters of national security, he declared that the country would remain resolute against any threats to its stability.

Strengthening ties with neighboring nations

The inauguration took place on the grand esplanade of the Palais des Congrès, where dignitaries gathered under the watchful eyes of the nation. Among the attendees were former Béninese presidents Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi. Sixteen foreign delegations were also present, including representatives from neighboring countries such as Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger—with whom relations have faced recent strain. The French Minister for International Partnerships was also in attendance, underscoring the importance of international collaboration.

Addressing the regional leaders, Wadagni underscored the necessity of deepening cooperation across West Africa. “We are bound together by shared challenges and destinies,” he stated. “Our strength lies in unity, and together, we must forge a path toward peace, stability, and shared prosperity.”
