WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2026/2027 – After a shock early goal from Paris FC, Barcelona responded with ruthless efficiency, scoring four times before half-time to effectively seal the win. The French side matched the holders after the break, but the damage was done: a 5-2 defeat that carries significant consequences for the club’s European ambitions and finances.

While PSG earned a valuable point in Madrid and OL Lyonnes brushed aside Servette, Paris FC inevitably struggled against the might of Barcelona. The defending champions, winners of four of the last six editions, made short work of the third-best French club on matchday one. The result leaves Paris FC facing an uphill battle to progress, with potential financial implications from lost prize money and reduced visibility.

Paris FC stun Barcelona early

Against all odds, Paris FC took the lead through new signings Mariam Toloba and Evelyne Viens. The former Nantes player pounced on a poor Spanish touch to release the Canadian, who used her strength to shrug off Paredes and Martina before finishing past Cata Coll. A stunned silence fell over the Spanish stadium, but Barcelona quickly restored order. Forty minutes later, the scoreline read 4-1.

After being called into action several times, Chavas was finally beaten by Kerolin (18th minute). Completely unmarked at the far post from a corner, Serrajordi pounced to put Barcelona ahead, before Graham Hansen delivered another assist, this time for Pajor. The Norwegian, who provided two assists, then scored the fourth just before the break. It was all too much for Paris FC, who were technically outclassed.

Second-half parity offers little comfort

While unable to overturn the deficit, Paris FC matched the holders in the second half. Their pressing was more intense and better coordinated, preventing Barcelona from playing freely after the restart. But although the defense looked more solid, the attack lacked a cutting edge. And when chances were wasted, the hosts punished them.

From a fine piece of play by Sydney Schertenleib, Pajor completed her brace (70th minute). Paris FC kept pushing and were rewarded when Clara Mateo scored at the second attempt. The visitors won the second half 1-1, but the first half had been fatal. The worst may be over for Paris FC, but Arsenal await next week.
