
The 51st General Assembly of the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) commenced with a dignified opening ceremony on July 9 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The event saw a significant turnout, including a delegation from Vietnam’s National Assembly, underscoring the assembly’s international importance in African current affairs.
Distinguished figures graced the opening session, notably the President of the Cameroonian Senate, the President of the Cameroonian National Assembly, and the President of the Cameroonian Economic and Social Council. Louise Mushikiwabo, the Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), was also present, alongside numerous esteemed guests and over 350 delegates. This extensive gathering comprised nearly 20 presidents and vice-presidents from APF member parliaments, representatives from the International Organisation of La Francophonie, various diplomatic missions, and international organizations, highlighting the assembly’s role in global parliamentary cooperation and African governance discussions.
The agenda for this year’s 51st APF General Assembly is meticulously structured around critical themes. Deliberations are centered on pressing issues in politics, democracy, economic development, social welfare, cultural exchange, and environmental sustainability. The primary objective is to fortify parliamentary collaboration among Francophone nations and collectively devise effective solutions to the shared challenges confronting the wider Francophone community, contributing to crucial continent news and international dialogue.
