united kingdom eyes deeper strategic collaboration with Morocco

London seeks to double its trade with Rabat, forging a robust strategic alliance.

The recent visit of Chris Bryant, the British Minister of State for International Trade, to Rabat has significantly bolstered the relationship between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Morocco. This engagement underscores the UK’s commitment to a strategic partnership with the North African nation.

The United Kingdom views Morocco as a dynamic hub of opportunities and has expressed a clear ambition to double its bilateral trade volume with the Kingdom within the next five to seven years. This objective was articulated by Chris Bryant during his visit to Rabat.

Following productive discussions with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Bryant highlighted that current trade exchanges between Morocco and the United Kingdom stand at approximately 4.5 billion pounds sterling. He conveyed a strong desire to see this figure double over the specified timeframe.

The British Minister of State also conveyed the United Kingdom’s eagerness to collaborate with Morocco as a key strategic partner in ensuring the successful hosting of major sporting spectacles, particularly the 2030 World Cup. Mr. Bryant’s official visit to Morocco includes his participation in the Moroccan-British Business Forum, scheduled for June 2 and 3, 2026. He is accompanied by a delegation of approximately fifty British companies specializing in the organization of international sporting events, underscoring the practical aspects of this collaboration.

Further demonstrating the depth of this bilateral engagement, Morocco and the United Kingdom are also set to convene the fourth session of the Morocco-United Kingdom Association Council, fostering continued dialogue and cooperation on various fronts relevant to African current affairs and continent news.
