On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the UNESCO Office in Mali proudly attended the award ceremony for the 16th Inter-Lycées Excellence Competition, hosted at the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré (ENI-ABT). Our presence came at the invitation of the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. This significant gathering united a diverse group of participants, including students, teachers, academic officials, and various partners, all committed to advancing excellence among Malian youth, particularly in the critical fields of science and innovation.

During his opening address, Dr. Kélétigui DAOU, the Director General of ENI-ABT, extended heartfelt gratitude to UNESCO for its involvement in this crucial initiative. He lauded the Organization’s consistent dedication to bolstering education across Mali. Dr. DAOU specifically highlighted UNESCO’s impactful efforts aimed at increasing girls’ access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, alongside promoting scientific research and innovation among young people, key areas for African current affairs and continent news.

The ceremony also featured a compelling address from the Secretary General of the ENI-ABT UNESCO Club. She underscored the profound importance of this 16th edition in recognizing and celebrating academic merit and excellence. Furthermore, she emphasized the vital role played by UNESCO Clubs in instilling values of responsible citizenship, fostering peace, and championing sustainable development within the community.

Mme Oumou Dicko, UNESCO’s Programs Officer for Sciences, conveyed her congratulations to both the organizers for the successful execution of this year’s event and to the students for their unwavering dedication. She outlined numerous opportunities UNESCO provides to young individuals interested in research, including valuable scholarships, mentorship programs, and avenues for participation in various international days observed by the Organization. Mme Dicko strongly encouraged students and aspiring scholars to deepen their engagement in science and innovation-focused disciplines, recognizing their pivotal role in contributing to Mali’s future development.
