UN Security Council condemns recent terror attacks in Mali
The United Nations Security Council has issued a strong condemnation of the recent terror attacks that struck Mali, labeling them as heinous and cowardly acts that pose a severe threat to international peace and security.
The fifteen member states of the Council unequivocally denounced the brutal terror assaults that unfolded in multiple regions of Mali on April 25 and again on May 6, resulting in numerous casualties. This condemnation was formally articulated in a statement released by the UN’s executive body.
The Security Council emphasized the urgent need to hold accountable not only the perpetrators but also those who financed, organized, or directed these terrorist acts. Justice must be served without delay, the statement stressed.
In a resolute stance, the Council reaffirmed that all forms of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of the motives behind them, their timing, or the actors involved. The international community was urged to intensify efforts to combat these threats, in strict alignment with the UN Charter and other obligations under international law.
