Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé made an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, on May 12, 2026, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni, who had been re-elected in the January 15 general election.
The inauguration, themed “Safeguarding achievements and advancing toward upper-middle-income status”, brought together African heads of state alongside delegations from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

During the event, Faure Gnassingbé extended his congratulations to President Museveni and expressed wishes for success in his new term. In response, Museveni praised the Togolese leader’s presence, highlighting it as a testament to the strong cooperation between Lomé and Kampala.
Discussions also focused on regional security concerns, particularly in the Great Lakes area. As the African Union’s mediator for the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Gnassingbé reiterated his commitment to ongoing consultations with regional stakeholders to foster a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Museveni commended Togolese diplomacy, emphasizing its dedication to dialogue and peaceful solutions. The visit underscores Togo’s ongoing role as a key player in Africa’s peacebuilding and regional integration efforts.
