Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, the mayor of Tiassalé, a vibrant cosmopolitan city located approximately 120 kilometers from Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, has announced a groundbreaking initiative: communal transport will be entirely free on weekends for residents and visitors alike.
This innovative measure is slated for implementation starting in late 2026, with an initial pilot phase to ensure smooth operation and community benefit.
“This policy is integral to our commitment to reallocate municipal resources, particularly as our own funds, derived from local taxes, have seen a significant increase from 24 million FCFA in 2019 to 91 million FCFA in 2025, with projections reaching 100 million FCFA by 2026,” Mayor Assalé explained in an official statement released via his Meta account.
The unprecedented announcement was first made by the mayor on Friday, May 22, 2026, during the 11th annual accountability day, held at the wedding hall in Tiassalé.
Antoine Assalé Tiémoko is a prominent figure in Côte d’Ivoire, known for his dual career as a politician and journalist. He currently serves as the mayor of Tiassalé commune and also presides over the political movement “Aujourd’hui et demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI).”
