Tchad mining sector boosted by SONEMIC innovations and strategic vision

During a recent review of the annual performance report and strategic objectives of the National Mining and Commercialization Company (SONEMIC), Chad’s Minister of Mines, Fatimé Haram Acyl, highlighted groundbreaking homegrown innovations reshaping the nation’s mining landscape.

Local innovations driving mining transparency in Chad

Minister Acyl expressed admiration for a locally developed software system that tracks mining permits, integrating seamlessly with customs and tax authorities. The solution, already managing 147 active permits, represents a significant leap toward greater transparency and operational reliability in Chad’s mining sector.

Strategic mapping and international partnerships for economic growth

The minister outlined ambitious plans to map mineral resources across key provinces, ensuring data accuracy and preventing potential conflicts. Ongoing negotiations with international partners are progressing, including discussions with the United Arab Emirates on water transformation initiatives and the development of an antimony refinery. These initiatives signal a determined effort to structurally diversify and strengthen Chad’s economy.

Unified leadership and communication as pillars of sectoral success

Emphasizing the importance of cohesive action, Minister Acyl stated: «Effective communication and a unified vision are essential to align all stakeholders with the Head of State’s policies.» She underscored how coordinated efforts within the mining and oil sectors can catalyze job creation and sustainable development across Chad.

The annual performance review underscores SONEMIC’s pivotal role in advancing Chad’s mining and petroleum sectors. «This is a collective effort,» she noted, «and with everyone playing their part, Chad is poised for substantial progress.»
