The Ministry of Tourism Development, Culture and Crafts in Chad partnered with the House of Cultural Heritage to launch the inaugural Museum Night at the National Museum of Chad in N’Djamena on Monday, May 18, 2026, aligning with International Museum Day.
As night fell, the museum transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural celebration. Traditional dancers from the Ballet national du Tchad greeted guests at the entrance with lively, colorful performances, instantly transporting visitors into the heart of the country’s rich dance traditions.
“It’s breathtaking to witness Chad’s traditional dance come to life during Museum Night,” shared Anne Marie-Thérèse, a first-time visitor who was already captivated by the artistic displays. “I’ve barely explored the museum’s wonders, and I’m already enchanted by these performances.”
The after-hours experience featured multiple interactive zones where attendees could freely explore permanent exhibits. Highlights included guided tours around historical artifacts, storytelling sessions by griots and museum guides, documentary screenings showcasing Chad’s tangible and intangible heritage, and live artistic performances.
Mbaibaidoh John Innocent, Director of the Ballet national du Tchad, emphasized the significance of the event. “Our traditional dances are rooted in our intangible heritage. We’ve adorned the stage with tools and objects our ancestors used daily, giving the younger generation a rare chance to connect with history. We hope Museum Night becomes a recurring event, held at least three times a year, to continually champion our cultural legacy.”
The occasion also drew the attendance of the French Ambassador to Chad and their delegation, underscoring the global attention to initiatives safeguarding and promoting Chad’s cultural treasures.
