Ousmane Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, addressed the upcoming local elections during his inauguration rally this Sunday at the Dakar Arena. He made it clear that his party would not support any attempt to postpone the vote.
Speaking before a large crowd of party members and senior officials, Sonko stated firmly that PASTEF would oppose any delay. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he declared, drawing applause from supporters.
Sonko further emphasized that any postponement must follow the institutional procedures set by law. “A postponement of an election in Senegal is not possible without a vote in the National Assembly,” he said. He urged relevant authorities to initiate the necessary steps to hold the election on schedule.
The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to speculation about the election timeline. “Let the president sign the decree; slowness will not save anyone,” he warned.
