Senegal’s post-CAN bonuses spark new debate 120 days later

The long-standing controversy over the post-victory bonuses announced after Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph has resurfaced, with lawmaker Guy Marius Sagna demanding clarity from the government on their disbursement. As the issue gains traction, staff at the Ministry of Sports are growing increasingly vocal about transparency in the distribution of these promised rewards.

Government questioned on unpaid sports ministry bonuses

In a formal inquiry submitted earlier this month, Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna pressed the Minister of Sports to explain whether staff at the ministry have received their promised bonuses following Senegal’s continental victory. The letter, dated May 5, 2026, specifically asks whether the beneficiaries of the 305 million CFA franc package—announced by the President after the CAN—have been settled.

The deputy’s intervention has reignited public scrutiny over the handling of these funds, with many questioning why months have passed without visible disbursement. Calls for transparency are intensifying as officials remain tight-lipped on the status of the payments.
