Senegal political tension: adviser denies secret pact between Diomaye Faye and Sonko

As the PASTEF party prepares for its upcoming congress, tensions within Senegal’s political landscape have intensified. In a bold intervention, Aldiouma Sow, Adviser to the President of the Republic, took direct aim at recent comments made by Ousmane Sonko, firmly rejecting claims of a supposed secret agreement struck during Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s detention at Cap Manuel.

Aldiouma Sow categorically dismissed the allegations, affirming that the Head of State never engaged in any clandestine dealings while in confinement. He emphasized that Diomaye Faye remained steadfast in his political convictions throughout the 2024 transition process, steadfastly upholding his commitment to democratic principles.

The Adviser went further, refuting accusations that the President had conspired to undermine Senegalese voters’ sovereign right to choose their leader. « There has been no attempt to manipulate or obstruct the people’s will, » he stated, underscoring that the President never endorsed any scheme to subvert electoral integrity.

Aldiouma Sow then outlined the President’s vision of political dialogue, describing it not as a tactical maneuver but as a core value shaping governance. For Diomaye Faye, dialogue is not a tool for short-term political maneuvering; it is a foundational principle guiding his approach to leadership and institutional relations.

This latest intervention comes amid growing speculation within the PASTEF party and broader public discourse. As the party’s highly anticipated congress approaches, questions linger about the relationship between the two key figures in Senegal’s executive branch and the future direction of the government.
